Compared to the UC30, the XC30 offers Peltier cooling and partial read-out. Due to its active Peltier cooling the XC30 not only works perfectly in color applications, like pathology and histology but is also suitable for high-intensity fluorescence. The compact and elegant housing encloses a 3 Megapixel CCD chip with 12 bits per channel. Just like the UC30, the XC30 also offers various frame rates for working within the entire field of view. The partial-read-out mode simplifies focusing through an extremely high frame rate. A segment of the entire field of view is defined by the user and only this image segment is read out by the camera. Alongside high resolution color acquisitions, the XC30 also offers acquisition of monochrome images when needed. All control functions are available through the Olympus cellSens imaging software, which ensures the utilization of the dynamic range, independently of current acquisition parameters.
The XC30 is not for clinical diagnostic use.

The XC30's CCD chip has a 3 Megapixel resolution. The user sees more detail and measurements can be carried out with even greater precision. The XC30's 12-bit resolution ensures correct imaging of hues and intensities. This camera supports three different frame rates. The special "search mode" with a frame rate of more than 25 images per second at 688 x 512 pixels makes finding suitable areas of a sample directly on the PC screen especially convenient. The "focus mode" provides 15 images per second at 1024 x 768 pixels. And at the highest resolution - 2048 x 1536 pixels - images can still be acquired at 5 images per second. This means that focusing can be done both in real time and upon image acquisition, providing images of exceptional quality. The XC30 supports partial read-out. This mode is for setting an ROI which is smaller than the whole image. Furthermore, the XC30 offers a black-and-white acquisition mode. The resolution of this special mode is restricted to 1024 x 768 pixels.
The highly sensitive CCD elements make it possible to detect even very weak signals. The electronic shutter offers exposure times ranging up to 160 seconds. The XC30 offers exposure times ranging from 100 µs to 160 sec. A highly efficient read-out technology (Correlated Double Sampling) in conjunction with Peltier cooling of the chip provides images with an optimal signal-to-noise ratio. Chip temperature is maintained at 10° C via Peltier elements. This causes very low noise, which in turn means that greater detail is visible.
All camera functions are fully operable via the cellSens imaging software. No matter what the actual acquisition conditions, real-time functions ensure that the entire dynamic range is exploited. This ensures optimally balanced contrast and superior image quality. The XC30´s full integration into the cellSens software provides all capabilities and advantages of Olympus’ innovative solutions to all challenges of image processing and analysis, ranging from image labeling on to
image archiving, report generation and emailing and including photo-realistic printouts.

FireWire technology guarantees that the XC30 installation is easy on any PC or laptop equipped with a FireWire port. FireWire technology enables you to use multiple cameras on the same PC. The XC30 can be mounted onto all light microscopes with a C-mount adaptor. Plus, one cable is all that is needed for getting data and power to the camera. No more clutter and no 'octopus' of cables getting in your way.
