With the latest technological innovations, the DP73 fully utilizes the objective’s resolving power to deliver unmatched, high-resolution imaging, especially at low magnifications and regardless of the imaging conditions. The DP73 benefits from Olympus’ experience in designing top-of-the-line professional DSLR cameras, with a range of features dedicated to providing clear and precise detail reproduction. The camera’s highly sensitive sensor and special "Wide Dynamic Range" mode, makes high quality imaging easy in all conditions. Producing great results with techniques from brightfield, contrast methods to fluorescence, the DP73 is ideal for all laboratory requirements. Scanning and focusing is simple and comfortable thanks to the new fluid high definition "Live" mode, while Olympus color rendering algorithms ensure that the colors displayed on the monitor accurately match those of the sample. Coupled with the Olympus cellSens software, which fully supports all of the camera’s innovative features , the DP73 produces dependable images, every time.
The DP73 is not for clinical diagnostic use.

High-definition Live Images under Low Magnification
High-definition 1600 x 1200-pixel images can be displayed live at a rate of 15 frames per second, without compression. This imaging quality enables even the finest cellular regions to be observed clearly and distinctly, with stress-free focusing and panning. The DP73 takes the strain out of long sample screening hours and makes conference-viewing application an engaging experience for all participants.
3CCD Mode for Faithful Color Reproduction
The DP73 has the power to minimize pseudo-colors and moiré artifacts that can otherwise have a negative impact on resolution and cause problems during low magnification observation. This is possible because it features the same new algorithms and fine-detail processing for enhanced resolution as those built into high-grade Olympus digital SLR cameras. The DP73 also optimizes the resolving power of the objectives to further improve the sharpness and clarity of images. By combining a 2.01 megapixel color CCD with pixel-shifting technology, the DP73 offers an astounding resolution of 17.28 megapixels. In addition to conventional 3 x 3 pixel shifting of one color per pixel, the DP73 features a 3-CCD pixel shift mode that enables three-color image resolution (RGB) for each single pixel, to improve color resolution even more.
Rich, Reliable Color Gradations
Through supporting AdobeRGB*, the DP73 faithfully renders a very broad color range. It also features a new color reproduction algorithm, so subtle differences in colors - such as brown, blue and purple - that have been difficult to separate until now, can be reproduced with exceptional accuracy. *Color reproduction fidelity depends on monitor specifications. Monitors supporting AdobeRGB are required to accurately reproduce images recorded in AdobeRGB mode.
Fast Live image, Even with Faint Fluorescence Signals
Images can be captured across a broad ISO100-1600 sensitivity range, due to features such as a new CCD drive system, reduced circuit noise thanks to active Peltier cooling and optimized image processing. These technologies drive the DP73’s capability to also capture bright, sharp fluorescence images with minimal noise.
Advanced Correction of Imaging Problems
Pixel-shifting technology in conventional digital cameras can sometimes compromise image quality, due to changes in brightness resulting from photobleaching during pixel shifting. The DP73 features a pixel shift photobleaching correction function that automatically corrects for changes in color gradations. So, even if pixel shifting has taken place, the second and subsequent images are corrected to be as bright as the first, resulting in images that are clear, sharp, and uncompromised.
Customizable Monochrome Mode
Fluorescence analysis using the DP73 takes advantage of all the new technologies built into the camera, allowing the high quality imaging of all kinds of dyes, regardless of sample brightness. Specific auto-exposure algorithms dedicated to fluorescence always suggest the optimal exposure time for correctly representing the sample, while offering the freedom to modulate exposure time and emphasize structures of interest if required. A "Custom Monochrome" mode is also available, which maximizes sensitivity for each color channel. Peltier cooling keeps image noise to a minimum during exposure, while integration and averaging functions allow proper imaging of even the faintest fluorochromes, delivering brilliant signal, black backgrounds and clear results.
Improved Image Capture, Processing and Analysis
When connected to Olympus cellSens software, the DP73 provides functions such as live image display, image adjustment, image capture, and post-capture image file management. Depending on the software option a full complement of functions ranging from image processing and various types of measurements, to report generation becomes available.
High-quality Capture of Multi-color Images
With cellSens Standard and the Multi-Acquisition Solution, the DP73 enables high-quality, multi-color images to be created from multiple exposures captured at different wavelengths. cellSens Dimension further simplifies the image capture of multi-stain specimens at different wavelengths, by automatically producing composite images with just a single click of the mouse.
Accurate Image Stitching for Supreme Macro Images
With cellSens Standard and the Manual Process Control Solution, the user is guided in acquiring overlapping parts of multiple adjacent images; these are then automatically recognized and aligned, with no signs of stitching. Furthermore, when the DP73 is connected to cellSens Dimension, the ultrasonic scanning stage of the BX63 motorized microscope will automatically stitch images together and produce seamless, high-quality macro images.
