Olympus Corporation (President: Yasuo Takeuchi) today announced the progressive international launch from October 1 2019 of the BX53 biological microscope that features Olympus’s own LED with high luminosity and color rendering performance and provides exceptionally bright and sharp imaging.
Designed for high reliability and ease of use, the BX3 series is the flagship in Olympus' range of biological microscopes. An extensive line up of models are available to suit different user needs, from ergonomic models ideal for routine work in clinical laboratories to fully-automated instruments necessary for cutting-edge life science research.
The new BX53 features Olympus’ own LED with high luminosity and color rendering performance that provides brightness and color reproduction equal to or better than that of a 100 W halogen lamp. Bright and sharp images can be obtained without the need for additional neutral density or daylight filters. The BX53 has been redesigned for easier operation, with an integrated Light Intensity Manager for specifying a preset brightness for each lens that eliminates the need to make adjustments when switching between objective lenses to change brightness levels.

1. Excellent brightness and sharp images using Olympus' own LED with high luminosity and color rendering performance
Featuring Olympus' own LED system with high luminosity and color rendering performance that provides brightness and color reproduction equal to or better than that of a 100 W halogen lamp, the BX53 microscope is capable of bright and sharp imaging using a long-life LED light source. The high luminosity LED can be used to configure a multi-head discussion system*1 for up to 26 people*2. Intended for use in situations such as conferences or classrooms. Moreover, the LED with high luminosity and color rendering performance introduced from this new model is suitable for all forms of transmitted light observation*3, including brightfield, darkfield, and polarized light.
*1: A system enabling a large number of people to simultaneously observe the same field of view.
*2: Previous models supported simultaneous observation by up to 10 users only.
*3: Brightfield, polarized light, phase contrast, darkfield, and differential interference observation techniques.

2. Brightness can be automatically selected with each objective lens
The BX53 microscope includes a function for specifying a preset brightness for each objective lens. The Light Intensity Manager uses information from a coded revolving nosepiece to adjust to a preset LED brightness level for each objective lens. This helps ensure that users can make observations using their preferred brightness, without the need to make adjustments when switching between objective lenses.
