The inverted frame is ideal for the time lapse observation of thick, living specimens such as tissue cultures, and three-dimensional cell cultures. The inverted frame system also finds utility in intravital time lapse observation of organs and tissues through a body window.

An inverted frame ideally supports observations of 3D cultures and multicellular clusters (spheroids), which were previously difficult to manipulate with upright frames.
The Z-drive guide with high thermal rigidity is installed near the revolving nosepiece to further augment stability of this frame in the face of heat and vibration and improve the results of time-lapse imaging.
