The XC50 offers a wide range of properties including high resolution, extreme sensitivity, cooling and variable exposure times. The XC50 has a 5 Megapixel CCD chip with a bit depth of 14 bits. The 2x binning mode enables frame rates of more than 22 images per second. This makes it easier to focus and to locate areas of interest on samples while conserving highly sensitive fluorescence samples. The high-resolution mode is ideal for acquisition. The XC50 is extremely sensitive and supports long integration times of up to 160 seconds. In combination with the camera cooling, these characteristics are ideal requirements for making perfect acquisitions of low-intensity fluorescence. In the live mode, the XC50 can superimpose a color LUT onto a monochrome b/w image in accordance with the fluorescence emission.
The XC50 is not for clinical diagnostic use.

2576 x 1932 pixels resolution and exposure time from 0.1 ms up to 160 sec make the XC50 attractive for users working with applications in the field of material science as well as all areas of biomedical and life sciences. This camera supports three different frame rates. The XC50 supports partial read-out. This mode is for setting an ROI which is smaller than the whole image.
The highly sensitive CCD elements make it possible to detect even very weak signals. The electronic shutter offers exposure times ranging up to 160 seconds. The XC50 offers exposure times ranging from 0.1 ms to 160 sec. A highly efficient read-out technology (Correlated Double Sampling) in conjunction with Peltier cooling of the chip provides images with an optimal signal-to-noise ratio. Chip temperature is maintained at 10° C via Peltier elements. This causes very low noise, which in turn means that greater detail is visible.
All camera functions are fully operable via the cellSens imaging software. No matter what the actual acquisition conditions, real-time functions ensure that the entire dynamic range is utilized. This ensures optimally balanced contrast and superior image quality. The XC50´s full integration into the cellSens software provides all capabilities and advantages of Olympus’ innovative solutions to all challenges of image processing and analysis, ranging from image labeling, image archiving and report generation to e-mailing and including photo-realistic printouts - all without any need for a darkroom.
FireWire technology guarantees that the XC50 installation is easy on any PC or laptop equipped with a FireWire port. The days when you were limited to a frame grabber and just a single camera are history. FireWire technology enables you to use multiple cameras on the same PC. The XC50 can be mounted onto all light microscopes with a C-mount adaptor. Plus, one cable is all that is needed for getting data and power to the camera. No more clutter and no 'octopus' of cables getting in your way.
